Memorialization
A memorial service was planned to take place on May 28, 1944 at Self Creek Baptist Church in Maben, Mississippi to honor William and his contribution to the war effort before his death. The service was held by the American Legion. A local newspaper wrote a piece on William's life and death and advertised the memorial service.
In Starkville, Mississippi, William's name appears on a monument near City Hall. The monument is dedicated to those from Oktibbeha County that died while serving their country. William's name appears on this monument in a column marked for those who served in World War II.
He is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing East Coast Memorial.
