Military Experience
William entered the service in Camp Shelby, Mississippi on October 1, 1942. He enlisted under the terms that he was to serve throughout the entire duration of the war plus sixth months after the war.
Before William was sent outside the United States to serve, he was stationed in a number of places America. In October 1942, he was stationed at Keesler Field, Mississippi. Keesler Field Air Force Base was constructed in Biloxi, Mississippi to house a technical training center and a basic training center. Basic training here lasted four months before recruits would either be sent to another camp to receive more training or would be chosen to remain at Keesler to become airplane mechanics. In 1942, when William was stationed at Keesler, the United States Army instructed the base to focus on training recruits to become mechanics for B-24 Liberator heavy bombers.
A few months later, in November 1942, he was stationed at Kellogg Field, Mississippi. In April 1943, William was stationed at the Air Tech Ing Unit in Chicago, Illinois. He was stationed in Arizona in August 1943.
In November 1943, William was sent to Salt Lake City, Utah, most likely Hill Field, which served throughout World War II as a major repair and supply depot for the United States Army Air Forces.
Before William left the United States, he was stationed at the Army Air Base in Sioux City, Iowa, where his dental records were kept.
During the war, he served in the US Army Air Corps until his death.
